Getting a Referral

Access to Psychologists through Medicare

A referral to see a clinical psychologist is only required if you wish to claim a rebate through Medicare. Referrals can be obtained from your local General Practitioner. Your GP is required to lodge a Mental Health Care Plan with Medicare Australia.

When booking an appointment with your GP, be sure to mention you are seeking a Mental Health Care Plan. If you have problems obtaining a referral, please phone (or have your GP phone) Family Challenge Reception on (07) 5478 0202.
